Syros, in the heart of the Cyclades, is easy to reach from mainland Greece and other islands. You can travel to the island either by ferry or by plane, depending on your schedule and travel style.

By ferry

Syros has strong ferry connections, making it an excellent choice for a longer stay as well as for island hopping.

  • From Piraeus (Athens port) (regular connections year-round, with seasonal variations).
  • From/to Heraklion (Crete) (mainly seasonal, depending on period and routes).
  • Connections across the Cyclades (many islands, ideal for inter-island travel).

Arriving with your own boat – Marinas

If you are travelling with your own boat, Syros offers mooring options for tourist vessels, with basic services and guidance for berthing. Indicatively:

Ermoupolis (port – yachting services)

  • Quay length: approximately 260 m (yachting service area).
  • Depths: approximately 4.5 m (A6–A7) and 8.0 m (A7–A8).
  • Capacity: around 100 boats (indicatively 70 sailing yachts & 30 cruisers).
  • Shelter: protected from all conditions except south-easterly winds.
  • Facilities: water, electricity, W.C., accessible W.C., showers, lighting, fire-fighting network.

Finikas (port – tourist vessels)

  • Quays: 110 m inside the basin and another 110 m on the outer side of the windward breakwater.
  • Average depth: about 4 m.
  • Capacity: up to 40 boats (depending on size).
  • Shelter: protected from all conditions except south-westerly winds.
