The\u00a0Department of Product and Systems Design Engineering was founded in 2000\u00a0in Ermoupolis\u00a0and it is housed\u00a0in the premises of the\u00a01st\u00a0high school.\u00a0The Department\u00a0provides\u00a0undergraduate and postgraduate studies\u00a0for\u00a0designing\u00a0of interactive\u00a0and\u00a0industrial products as well as systems\u00a0while a study for the expansion of the University is in process\u00a0along with\u00a0the\u00a0establishment of\u00a0two\u00a0new divisions, the\u00a0Applied and\u00a0Visual\u00a0Arts.\u00a0Beyond\u00a0the studies\u00a0taking place in the University, the Unit of the University of the Aegean\u00a0in Syros\u00a0also organizes summer\u00a0training programs,\u00a0educational\u00a0exhibitions\u00a0and\u00a0visits\u00a0as well as student exchange programs\u00a0among\u00a0other universities.\u00a0The University of Syros is supported by\u00a0the\u00a0largest\u00a0academic network\u00a0in the nation AEGEO-NET\u00a0and therefore features a wealth of modern equipment as well as\u00a0an impressive library\u00a0for\u00a0the\u00a0constant upgrading\u00a0of\u00a0education\u00a0and knowledge.<\/p>\n
The purpose\u00a0of the new\u00a0Department is\u00a0to\u00a0meet the needs\u00a0of the 21st century\u00a0and\u00a0to\u00a0provide solutions\u00a0to build up modern functional\u00a0products\u00a0and systems\u00a0while combining\u00a0the\u00a0creative\u00a0talents\u00a0with\u00a0art\u00a0and\u00a0new technologies.<\/p>\n
The aim is to\u00a0build\u00a0prototype products\u00a0and become involved\u00a0in\u00a0all stages\u00a0of a product\u2019s\u00a0or\u00a0system\u2019s lifecycle in order to\u00a0ease their integration\u00a0in the human\u00a0environment.<\/p>\n
The\u00a0overall\u00a0cognitive\u00a0perspective\u00a0about design\u00a0acquired by\u00a0graduates\u00a0of the University\u00a0allows them\u00a0to\u00a0meet the new needs and requirements\u00a0of the sector\u00a0in areas\u00a0such as production,\u00a0manufacturing, designing\u00a0electronic products and services, electronic publishing\u00a0and in general,\u00a0all aspects\u00a0of electronic commerce.<\/p>\n
